I lead a group of AmeriCorps members who serve at nonprofit organizations in Ingham County. We aim to reduce chronic disease for Lansing area residents by increasing access to healthy food and exercise. We create, maintain, and expand sustainable food systems, community gardens, trails, greenways, and non-motorized transportation options. The group currently consists of 15 members who serve at 11 local organizations. I moved to Lansing last year to be an AmeriCorps member in the first year of the program. Now, as Program Director, I have the opportunity to see the projects we started grow in the second and third program years. These projects include reducing food deserts and auto dependence and promoting healthy lifestyles, gardening, biking, and local food.
