My new job at MCAN is a combination of something I have experience doing (office work) with something that is completely new to me (working for a nonprofit). I will use what I know to manage the office and make sure that things run smoothly and that all of the staff have support, while also learning about the workings of a nonprofit organization.

I work in partnership with the director of Marketing and Communication to further the College of Veterinary Medicine’s marketing and communication goals through writing and the management of digital communication collateral, web content, and multimedia projects.

I coordinate the adult computer learning program at ITEC, a Lansing non-profit offering technology-based education to youth and adults in the capital area. I am also overseeing the launch of the new iMath after-school math tutoring program at Sheridan Road Elementary. Lastly, I help to write grants and material for the website, annual report, and newsletters.

Assist the Business Manager in many of the office and accounting tasks related to the business.

I create websites and software interfaces designed to optimize the users experience. I conduct research, surveys, interviews and usability tests to learn how do make the experience better. I then prototype and design the website or interface based on that research. I help attempt to make human computer interaction as error free as possible.

Working with Public Relations Consultant Kate Tykocki and the NEO Center on various PR projects here in Lansing and around the local area.

My larger focus is the design, implementation and technical oversight of government focused information systems, including the database, application, and infrastructure tiers.  My primary project is the Michigan Student Longitudinal Data System, but my role will extend to other state of Michigan projects.  The specific technologies I work with include but are not limited to Oracle and SQL Server, Java, .NET, PHP, Linux, Windows and Solaris.  I have also been tasked with helping to develop an architect practice area within the government solutions group.

I'll be producing the weekend news.  The producer makes sure all the peices of the newscast are in place and ready to go.  We work with the reporters and news director to create the show's flow and make sure it's entertaining and informative.

Working on the Health Information Exchange at the State of Michigan’s Department of Community Health (DCH).  Currently managing the Enterprise MICAM (Michigan Identity, Credential, and Access Management) project which is in the Request For Proposal (RFP) Phase.

I'm a web developer that looks to the problem at hand, and the intended audience, to solve each new puzzle. At Gravity Works, I create, test, and improve web and mobile tools.

A Video Journalist, or what is commonly known as an MMJ (Multi-Media Journalist) is a position in which a journalist acts as a reporter, photographer and editor all in one. I shoot, write and edit all of my own stories all while racing against the clock! Anyone who has never been around the business may not realize how much work goes into getting one story on the air; reporters may appear poised on TV, but most days it’s chaotic and we feel like chickens with our heads cut off –chasing down interviews all over town. Despite the craziness, Lansing is definitely an exciting and dynamic place to be a VJ because though it’s not the biggest or most populated city, there is so much happening and such a diverse group of people who live and work here –it seems there is never a dull moment. I might interview the governor at the capital, swing by MSU to talk to tailgaters, and head to St. Johns for a farming story all in a week!
