Felpausch Food Center on West Grand River Avenue in
Williamston will undergo a complete $6 million expansion by mid-June. The expanded
space will include a coffee shop and 40 new jobs.
According to excerpts from the article:
"Before we were so small and so cramped," says the store's director, Mike Nelson.
"We really just had the bare, basic selection
before. [Now], we just have the opportunity to carry everything our customers
want."
It's all part of Grand Rapids-based Spartan Stores Inc.'s
effort to transform the Felpausch chain it bought as part of a $38.5 million
takeover of Hastings-based G&R Felpausch Co. in June 2007.
Spartan's purchase of Felpausch included 20 retail
grocery stores, two fuel centers and three convenience stores.
The company is evaluating each Felpausch and has already
converted several into its Family Fare format, including one in Eaton Rapids.
