April 3, the City of Eaton Rapids will celebrate the grand opening of the 38,040 square foot Kingston Place senior apartments on King Street.
The building takes the place of a former, unused bus depot, which was demolished to make space for the new apartments. Kingston Place is a block away from Main Street on King Street in Eaton Rapids.
“Besides providing the need for housing for seniors that’s affordable, any development of the area, especially a small area like Eaton Rapids, attracts other developers,” says Cheryl Zagorski, regional property manager for KMG Prestige. “Eaton Rapids is looking to do a major marketing campaign called 'Small Town Charm.' We’re only a block from downtown, and this certainly speaks to the growth in the area for small town charm.”
Kingston Place’s proximity to downtown also provides a walkable community for the seniors.
Construction on the building began in the spring of 2008. The first tenant moved in December 2008. The building offers 40 one and two bedroom apartments. About eight tenants have moved in.
“We really looking for our traffic to increase going forward,” she says. “Generally March and April are a bit slower, especially for seniors who tend not to go out in the winter time.”
The grand opening will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, April 3 at 501 King St. in Eaton Rapids.
